Art and science in a bottle...

Crystal Head Vodka
....even though I lack the enzyme to help break down alcohol, and therefore cannot drink alcohol, I have always enjoyed the beauty of the bottles of many brands of liquor. How appropriate that I bought this Crystal Head Vodka for my fiance after graduating (image from StreetAnatomy.com).

OT: "24: The Musical"

How can I not share my brothers' creativity? Composers, lyricists, musicians and writers, my brothers Jon and Al have decided to take advantage of the era of videos going viral on video sharing websites such as youtube and put together some videos to go with tunes they've composed in years past. Here is just one these videos, which I am sure you will enjoy if you were at all a fan of the hit FOX show "24" which just ended its 8 season run this May:

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy: An Educational Flash Interactive Module for the Newly Diagnosed Diabetic Patient

For my graduate research project, I designed and executed the prototype for a diabetic patient education Flash interactive on diabetic peripheral neuropathy. The goal was to create an educational experience, alternative to the usual pamphlet of disease information, which might be implemented and available via the web for diabetic patients to learn about the causes behind and prevention of diabetic peripheral neuropathy, a debilitating disease that is unfortunately all too common in long-term diabetic patients.

Creatively speaking, four out of seven story-boarded animations were created with using Adobe Flash. The "Diagnosis" module contains interactive 2D illustrations. Future work on this project will include a completion of all proposed animations and with an increased level of detail, as well as the use of more illustrations in each module.

A proposal to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is a possibility once the prototype is turned into a complete interactive.

Have a look at the work that started over a year ago, beginning with research and ending in the design process:  Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy - Flash Interactive
